Shop Foreman

Our company has an outstanding opportunity for a results-focused, highly driven and experienced Shop Foreman.  The Shop Foreman is responsible for (1) ensuring the proper repair and servicing of all the vehicles taken in by the Service Department, and (2) maintaining Technician productivity at levels determined by service management. This task is accomplished by providing direct on-the-job assistance to Technicians, coordinating and conducting training, inspecting jobs for proper completion and creating an environment for high productivity through motivational leadership and effective administration.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of product and technical knowledge and practical experience through the study of technical manuals and bulletins, classroom training, communication with factory service representatives and actual hands-on experience.
  • Maintain a skill summary of the technical staff and make recommendations to service management regarding technical needs.
  • Provide technical and administrative training for Technicians both in a classroom setting and on-the-job as directed and/or approved by service management.
  • Provide timely on-the-job assistance to Technicians experiencing difficulty diagnosing and/or repairing vehicles.
  • Review diagnostic results of any Technician performing new and/or unfamiliar diagnostic procedures, before major repairs are begun.
  • Provide diagnostic and test drive assistance on the service lane as needed by the service sales staff.
  • Personally quality check and/or road test the work performed on every vehicle with a major repair, every new vehicle within six months of its delivery date, and every vehicle worked on by a Technician experienced at the operation performed, or as directed by service management.
  • Assist the service sales staff in properly documenting Repair Order complaint, cause and correct information.
  • Administer pay for the technical staff according to company policies.
  • Meet individually with group leaders once a week to (1) review group performance, and (2) counsel them regarding all administrative and management matters.
  • Meet with the Service Manager once a week to (1) report on shop production, and (2) discuss any pending administrative or management matters.
  • Perform various administrative tasks as directed by management.
  • Keep shop equipment in safe operating condition. Stay informed about new equipment available in the marketplace, and be able to make objective recommendations regarding the purchase of such equipment.
  • Direct the maintenance of shop "cleanliness" in accordance with company housekeeping policies and management directives.
  • Coordinate repairs as necessary on the entire physical plant.
  • Report to management any situation or condition that jeopardizes the safety, welfare or integrity of the dealership, its personnel or customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in an automotive technical position.
  • 2+ years as a team lead/previous foreman position
  • Factory training credentials
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient knowledge of dealership's computer systems
  • Ability to collaborate with the public, sometimes with several customers at a time
  • Ability to collaborate with other dealership personnel
  • Must have valid in-state driver's license and have and maintain an acceptable, safe driving record and safe driving habits in order to drive both customer
  • Must be insurable
  • Must be a team player with impeccable honesty and integrity
  • Maintain a high level of professional personal appearance and conduct

Operator's Driver's License; State Inspection License.
